RPG Therapy Groups for Adolescents

I am a drama therapist, social worker, and educator working in NYC with children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced traumatic events.

At the moment, I am currently accepting new adolescent, child, and family clients.

Trauma has an impact
on all of us. . .

When we experience traumatic events, our sense of what the world is, and our place in it, can feel changed forever. Therapy to address trauma in our past or present uses our natural capacity to connect with the parts of us that remain open to play, change, and growth. We make meaning of the difficult experiences in our past and reconnect with our bodies, memories, and spirit.

. . .Your therapy should be
as unique as you are

I work with each client to develop a shape and form for their psychotherapy that focuses on the issues that they would like to work on, as well as the interests, talents and skills that allow them to be the most creative and free they can be within the process.

Drama therapy uses movement, story, character, music, and play to promote change and health. I draw on mindfulness work and humor to help us stay in the moment when we are facing difficult things in session.

Affirming Encounters

As a queer therapist it’s particularly important to me to create a safe and welcoming space for members of the LGBTQ+ community and those who may be exploring their identity or in the process of transition. In my practice I work to be aware of my own identity and history, and provide a relationship in which all races, genders, backgrounds, orientations, and abilities can feel seen and appreciated. I also work with family members of LGBTQ+ people who may be working to expand their own capacity for understanding and supporting loved ones.

Groups & Training

I run groups for students, clinicians, and institutions about processing traumatic experiences. I am a trainer in Developmental Transformations Drama Therapy (DvT), an embodied, playful method for dealing with life’s instability. I also provide supervision and consultation to therapists dealing with trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, and institutional rupture and trauma.

Research & Teaching

I teach at the Silberman School of Social work at Hunter College, and my core classes focus on integrating the creative arts into helping practices, as well as Research design and analysis. I am also engaged in research work studying the experiences of people who have experienced traumatic events and the impact this work has on practitioners.
